This car driving simulator distinguishes itself by being low-cost, easy to install and move and still have 210° field of view. Its virtual driving instructor allows it to be used without the continuing presence of a human instructor.
                </functionality>
                <my_job>

My first task was to create autonomous car driving agents that behave naturally in any traffic situation. They keep distance, take several types of intersections, overtake each other, and pull in and out on the highway. I worked together closely with my colleague Robert den Holder who created the traffic model.

Next, I designed and implementated the virtual driving instructor, an adaptive, real-time, Intelligent Tutoring System that shows students how to drive a car. This virtual agent is a procedure trainer that guides the student step by step through a driving task. It checks if the student does the right thing and gives feedback if he/she doesn't. As the student progresses in skill, the amount of guidance for the task is reduced automatically (adaptive). The agent teaches the student how to control the vehicle (drive away, shift gears, brake, steer, etc), take intersections and roundabouts, and drive on the highway, taking exit and entry lanes. It keeps track of the performance of the student and adapts its instruction. In a tight schedule I analyzed the requirements, made a functional and technical design, created a new architecture, implemented the instructor together with Robert, expanded, tested (everyone tested), and debugged the system.
                    The agent is based on didactic principles that were taught to me by the CEO of Green Dino, Jorrit Kuipers, and which I learned from books. It also integrates standards like Rijprocedure B, Het Nieuwe Rijden (Eco Driving) and RIS (Rijden In Stappen). It is unique in the world.

Olaf Achthoven and I set up an information management system GUI to manage students and lessons. It uses an MS Access database and is based on a workflow structure which is easy to learn and use.

I wrote the 50 page user manual for the driving simulator, to be used by driving school personnel.

Over 40 driving simulators have been sold, and the company is now market leader in the Netherlands.

                    education and salary. With this system employees can easily calculate their
                    future benefits (income), based on the current situation or after a number of
                    simulated events have passed. They are guided by a vast amount of benefit-related

                    PID stand is a program that is to be used at the PID-stand
                    in fairs to inform potential PID-employees about the projects that PID has in store.
                    The potential PID-employees are able to enter their personal background,
                    interests and their address information.
                    The address information is stored for later use. The other information makes it
                    possible to view descriptions of PID-projects that relate to their personal background
                    and interests. Care was given to robustness of data storage and the manual

My quest for knowledge led me to the Transcendental Meditation movement. Meditation had a very good effect on me. So when they asked me to work for them and my study Philosophy was coming to an end, I said yes.

I first worked at the estate Soeria (Laag Soeren) where I worked to finance an important meditation course. The jobs I did included cooking, dishwashing, purchase, and cleaning.

Later I was allowed to be transferred to the movement's headquarters (located with Purusha, in Vlodrop), where we had some opportunities to see Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in person. My activities there included administration, cooking, and cleaning.

After some time I felt there was no direction in my life or in the movement, and I had a strong urge to pick up programming again. So I left, leaving many good friends.
